¿Quién sabe?

Sigmund Freud once walked these halls (1885–1886) as a foreign scholar under Jean-Martin Charcot, the founder of modern neurology and then owner of 217 Boulevard Saint-Germain, a place frequented by artists, writers, scientists, and politicians of the era.

From the Hôtel du Brésil, where he resided, Freud would visit Charcot’s house, which later became the Maison de l’Amérique Latine.

With this Freudian-Latin American journey in mind, it was only natural that our Latin American bar be named “Café Sigmund,” where, as in diplomacy, subtle intentions mingle around earthly pleasures.

François Vitrani, General Director of the Maison de l’Amérique Latine
